New Bastrop County Republican Office Open
September 15, 2008
The Bastrop County Republican Party has a new office located at 1109 Main St., Suite A, in Bastrop, which is located almost directly across Main Street from the Post Office. The Bastrop Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting at the new office on September 23, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. The public is welcome to attend and see the new office. Although the party’s office has moved, its phone number will remain 303-1844.
Part of the function of the office is to serve as a distribution center for campaign materials. Since Senator John McCain chose Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate, there has been exponential growth of local interest in his campaign. Because McCain campaign dollars will be spent mostly in battleground states, it falls to the County party organizations in Texas to finance the cost of obtaining McCain-Palin signs and bumper stickers. Recognizing the need for McCain-Palin signs and the increased interest of the public in having them, the members of the Executive Committee of the Bastrop County Republican Party raised over $1,000.00 to purchase signs on September 6. Based on my conversations with others, I believe candidates and party leaders from both major parties agree that raising money for politics in Bastrop County can be difficult. I view this generous response as a measure of the renewed enthusiasm of some of our local citizens for the McCain-Palin ticket. The first signs and bumper stickers are now available at the new Republican office on a first-come, first-served basis.
