Bastrop Republican Primary Results

With all the excitement of the primaries at the national level last Tuesday, I want to take a moment to bring the focus back to the local level. These are the people who are our friends and our neighbors, who go to bat for us every day and work hard to earn our support and trust.

On behalf of the Bastrop County Republican Women, I would like to personally congratulate the winners of our two contested primaries: Derek Van Gilder, candidate for 423rd District Judge, and Terry Pickering, candidate for Bastrop County Sheriff. They ran terrific campaigns and we are proud to have them represent our party in the November general elections.

To their opponents I would also like to point out how grateful we are for their service and their representation of the Republican Party. Charlotte Hinds has served this county very well in her position as 423rd District Judge; it’s not easy starting a new court venue from scratch, but her hard work and dedication has really shown. Rosanna Abreo had a steep hill to climb as well in order to restore the good name of the sheriff’s department, and we fully believe she has accomplished that mission. Both Abreo and Hinds were strong, qualified candidates who have very bright futures ahead of them. We are proud to call them “fellow Republicans” but we are even prouder to call them “friends”.

That being said, we look forward to campaigning for all Republican candidates in the November elections so that they can carry forward our message of individual freedom and limited government.

BCRP Primary Voting Update

Today is the Primary election. The polls are open until 7 p.m. GO VOTE!!!!

Already the early voting response has been huge. We voted almost 7,000 people early, 1,900 of which were Republican primary voters. We have not broken 700 in early voting numbers in our primary in the 2000 or 2004 presidential elecions.

If you need to know where your polling location is, check your precinct number on your voter registration card, then look up your voting location on our website: www.bastropcountygop.org. The web site has been updated with our current information. It also contains all candidates and issues on the Republican Primary ballot.

Also, attend you precinct convention at your polling loction following close of the polls. There we will elect delegates and alternates to the County Convention to be held March 29, and consider resolutions brought by your neighbors.
